A megacity is a city that contains over 10,000,000 people. The city of Istanbul has over 16,000,000 people. Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey. Istanbul’s growth factors include a rich culture, migration for employment, and geographical location. From this project, I learned that Istanbul used to be the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Istanbul is also the only city in the world that borders two continents (Europe and Asia). I was surprised to learn that one city could have over half of the population of Canada.
